Color Factory: Exhibition Site

How do you talk about something that’s so different from anything anyone’s ever experienced?

Drawing on the senses, we painted a picture of what Color Factory would feel like: a two-story interactive exhibition celebrating color. (A place for adults to play like kids.)

Some Words

“A Pop-Up Experience in San Francisco”

“Lose yourself in 10,000 colored ribbons, sink into a giant yellow ball pit, catch some rainbows, smell colorful memories, and taste a spectrum of treats from our favorite stops in San Francisco. The pinks will delight you, the blues will amaze you, the yellows might make you hungry. Put on your favorite hue and come to us for color.”

Color Factory: Exhibition Catalog & Neighborhood Walking Tour

Extending the Color Factory beyond its brilliant front doors, this clever map guided adventurers to 18 colorful spots around the city. “Try a hot pink dragon fruit bowl or a technicolor manicure, see the Chinatown Kite Shop, or find Mr. Jui’s secret back door.”

Some Words

“Where all the color really begins.”

“CMYK saves the day.”

“The hot pink dragon fruit bowl ($9)

is as easy on the eyes as it is healthy.”

“Go to the corner of Mason and Sutter. Find the yellow star to stand on. Once you are there, look around until you see a much larger star. When you spot it, you will feel like one yourself.”

Scratch n’ Sniff Scent Wall

Our sense of smell is one of the most powerful tools for memory. I used the power of description to paint a striped wall of scratch n’ sniff memories: “A Cure for Puffy Eyes”, “Baby Poop”, and “Christmas Tree Trimmings”, among many, many others.

Some Words

“Olfactory Memories :

Sometimes we wish we could capture the smell of roses in the garden or cake straight out of the oven — scents that evoke memories. Scratch and sniff the dots along this wall...but careful, they might not all be sweet.”
